Frequently Asked Questions About Online Therapy in NJ & NY
Questions about what it's like to work together? Start here. If you don't see yours, reach out.
- How is therapy with you different from other therapists?
My approach is holistic, individualized, and centered around you. We tap into your strengths and build confidence and clarity so you feel more in control of your decisions and connected to yourself. My goal is to help you move through life with more ease, self-trust, and self-compassion. I also want you to know I've been where you might be now. I know what it's like to struggle with anxiety, overthinking, self-doubt, and a complicated relationship with food and body image. Therapy is your space, not mine, and I hold a deep understanding of how hard it can feel and how possible it is to shift. I believe therapy should feel safe, empowering, honest, and healing.
- Do you offer in-person sessions?
At this time I don't offer in-person sessions. All sessions are online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. I can see clients located in New Jersey and New York.
- What are the benefits of online therapy?
Online therapy offers flexibility and convenience. You can join from wherever you're most comfortable, whether that's home, work, or your car between appointments. It's a great option for busy schedules and makes it easier to stay consistent. All you need is a quiet, private space and a secure internet connection.
- What can I expect during my first appointment?
Our first session is an “intake appointment” or “initial evaluation.” It's a relaxed, informal chance to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy and what you'd like to work on, and I may ask about your background and history. You're always welcome to share only what feels comfortable. Ongoing sessions typically last 45 minutes to one hour.
- How long do I need to be in therapy?
It looks different for everyone; there's no one-size-fits-all. I usually recommend starting weekly. Meeting consistently early on helps us build a strong relationship and momentum. As we go, we check in on your progress and adjust frequency to your needs; some clients stay weekly, others move to bi-weekly or another rhythm.
- What are your fees?
- Initial evaluation session: $200
- 60-minute session: $175
- 45-minute session: $150
A sliding scale is available to individuals without insurance or based on need (subject to availability). Reach out to learn more.
- Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Insurance is billed through Alma (helloalma.com) and Headway (headway.co). Most commercial insurance is accepted, including Horizon BCBS of NJ, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, and Aetna.
- What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the federal No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022), you have the right to a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your care will cost. Providers must give clients who don't have insurance, or who aren't using insurance, an estimate of expected costs for non-emergency items and services. You're entitled to this estimate in writing at least one business day before your service, and you can request one before scheduling. If your final bill is at least $400 more than your estimate, you can dispute it; keep a copy of your estimate. For more information, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059. All private/cash-pay clients receive an individual Good Faith Estimate prior to their appointment after an agreed-upon rate.
